OpenMosix Examples

From BCCD 2.2

Jump to: navigation, search

For examples of openMosix running on a cluster, here are some screen shots of the BCCD running over 24 nodes, using openmosix to distribute the awk example referenced in Setting Up openMosix.

Graphical Tool: openMosix Migration Monitor

In the graphics plane, you can "select" jobs that have been migrated and drag-and-drop them to other hosts for migration control and dynamic job assignment. Pretty cool.

The Migration Monitor gives a graphical display of migrating jobs around

Command-line Tool: mtop

Looking at the console in the lower right-hand corner, notice that the output looks like regular "top" output, but has an additional field specifying which openMosix node the process is running on.

mtop looks like top output except it shows which node the process is running on

Command-line Tool: openMosix Monitor, mosmon

The mosmon application (lower, right-hand corner again) gives a visualization of the process distribution using an easy-to-read bar graph format. For more information, please see openMosix Monitor.

mosmon displays a bar graph with the node number on the x-axis and the load on the y-axis

Graphical Tool: openMosixView

This graphical utility shows summary information for the cluster nodes in the openMosix environment. Information listed includes available memory, workload, CPUs and IP address. Note that there is also a slider bar for each openMosix node which allows you to tailor the "migration favorability" for magiration of processes to that particular node. For more information about the openMosixView package, please see openMosixView Package.

openMosixview displays the "migration favorability", overall load, and overall used memory for each node
